It is located at the Psychiatric Hospital of the University of Saint-Etienne which is a tertiary centre for Eating Disorders of the Rhone-Alpes region, which has 600,000 inhabitants. The hospital is part of the Department of Psychiatry which has been classified in 1996 by the General Direction of Health as one of the most innovating French centres in this field.

Research: The unit is member of a task force promoted by the National Institute for Health and Medical Research on nutrition. It participates in various local (high schools, university), regional and national actions about nutrition and prevention of eating disorders and received several grants for these actions from local and regional administrations. The well established co-operation with the Department of Endocrinology is involved in the biological and genetic fields. Specifically, the group obtained grants from the Ministry of Health to study osteoporosis in patients with anorexia nervosa and a grant for prevention research to develop tools for the identification of people at risk for eating disorders. These tools are now available and will be used in addition to the core assessment instruments of INTACT. Another direction of the unit’s research is the evaluation of prevention models in students.

Training:The Department of Psychiatry has well established working relationships to several institutes and hospitals in the area. Among these the co-operation with the University of Lyon 2 is of special importance for the spectrum of academic training. Thus, the network node can offer training for a Doctoral and post doc degree in prevention at the University of Lyon 2. The requested ESRs will be member of the collaborative team and thus, can use supervision of members of both centres.
