The University Hospital of Geneva (HUG) is the major regional hospital in the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. The Service of Therapeutic Education for Chronic Diseases provides therapeutic information and support for patients suffering from chronic diseases, especially in the area of obesity and diabetes. Treatment programs are funded on an interdisciplinary approach linking medicine, nutrition, physical activity, psychology and art-therapy. The Service has been recognised by the WHO as collaborator centre since 1983.
Research: For more than 25 years now, the HUG Service of Therapeutic Education for Chronic Diseases has sustained a strong research activity in the field of obesity and diabetes in collaboration with international research groups. The Service strength is to cover a great number of potential factors in order to investigate the causes of obesity, diabetes and binge eating disorders. Our fundamental research is not only focused on energetic, metabolic, hormonal mechanisms but also on behavioural, psychological and nutritional mechanisms.
Training: In collaboration with the Geneva University, the HUG provides facilities relevant for post-graduate training in psychology and research in social sciences. Clinical skills in cognitive and behavioural therapy can be acquired with the supervision of specialized psychologists.
