The epidemiological study of modern eating and body image disorders in high risk population

Background

Eating and body image disorders are the disorders of the modern civilization and some new subtypes have appeared in the last two decades.

Objectives

Muscle dysmorphia is a special body image disorder f males. These patients are body builders, and believe that they are weak nd small despite of their muscular and large body shape, so avoid publicity, nd are afraid of being humiliated because of their thinness. The danger of his syndrome is mainly in the often life-threatening somatic and mental onsequences of steroid abuse.
Eating disorder, body builder type was described only in 2000, and this eans an overconcern about the body composition and muscle mass, accompanied by strict dieting rules.
Orthorexia nervosa is the newest obsession in relation to the food, and means the obsessive use of healthy food, i.e., it is a dependence on healthy food. In this case the object of the obsessive symptoms is the quality of the food.

Aim

The aim of the study is to assess the modern eating and body image disorder in high risk population in Hungary.

The expected theoretical and practical results

Considering the small number of the studies focusing on these disorders our research can significantly contribute to the deeper understanding of their background, dynamic and therapeutical orientation.
