The Centre for Psychotherapy Research at the University of Heidelberg is one of the leading promoters of health service research in mental health in Germany. The European Collaboration within the framework of COST (Action B6) was initiated and co-ordinated from here.
As part of the Centre for Psychosocial Medicine at the University it has well established links with the Department of Psychiatry, the Family Therapy Unit, the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine of the University.
Research: The main research fields at the Centre for Psychotherapy are (a) the evaluation of psychotherapy service provision, exemplified by a national study on the effectiveness of the treatment of ED (in co-operation with 43 German hospitals) and by COST Action B6 that brought together research groups from 19 European countries, (b) quality assurance and outcome monitoring, and (c) development and evaluation of e-health tools for the optimisation of care of patients with mental disorders.
This research is conducted in co-operation with several specialised (non-university) hospitals as well as with health insurance companies. Recently, the specific attention is given to the consumer perspective that arose from closer contact with patient organisations.
Training: The Centre offers the full range of training and facilities of a major German University. 12 of the research assistants of the Centre achieved their doctoral degree over the last years. Weekly research seminars encourage multidisciplinary learning. The Centre has all the hard- and software at its disposal that is needed for the transfer of the technological knowledge. Co-operation with various research groups of the University as well as to external research institutes in the neighbourhood of Heidelberg ensures continuous broad multidisciplinary education for the ESR on site.
